Some Past Activities

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Some significant successes recorded by WIN, Athy to date in building bridges and promoting the gains of diversity for positive integration includes:

 

- 22nd March, 2007, 1st Celebrating Diversity in Athy/ Public Launch of WIN, Athy. Funded by Kildare County Council Festival Grant.

 
- May, 2007, hosted an information stand at the Athy water festival.

 

- June-September, 2007, First Skills Acquisition Training titled Sewing Knitting and Bead Making at the Athy Travellers Club House. Funded by KCP and Community Education Grants.

 

- September 14th, 2007, Special Exhibition of Products from training and launch of Athy, Past and Present written by Frances Soney-Ituen, by Dr. Joanna McMinn, Executive Director NWCI at the Athy Heritage Centre.

 

- October 4th 2007, Special session with Teresa Castro, A postgraduate Photography Student from California, USA and certificate award dinner for participants in the skills acquisition training.

 

- 1st December, 2007, WIN, Athy’s Family day out to Dublin Zoo and Enarg, Newcastle, Co. Dublin. Supported by SKCT.

 

- 15th December, 2007, Children’s funfair/Christmas party at the Tricky, Naas. Trickster Magic CastleSupported by SKCT.

 

- February, 2008 Basic Group Development Training (four modules: Personal Development, Interculturalism/Anti-Racism, Sustainable Growth and Development and Work, Women & Welfare). Funded by Community Foundation for Ireland.

 

-17th March, 2008, Hosted by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese at the ÁRAS AN UACHTARÁIN.

 

- 10th April, 2008, 2nd Celebrating Diversity in Athy/ 1st Anniversary of WIN Funded by Kildare County Council Festival Grant . And launch of the first edition of WIN’s International Cookery Book (WICB) by Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Sean Cunnane.

 

-21st April, 2008, WIN, Athy held an International Cookery Demonstration with school leaving students and recipes were all taken from WIN’s International Cookery Book (WICB).

 

- 20th May’08 Launch of WINNING KIDS (children’s arm of WIN, Athy) and first day of practice.

 

- 21st May, 2008, WIN, Athy provided Taste of Africa to South Laois Arts Council, Ballylinan during their African day celebrations.

 

- 23rd-24th May, 2008, African Day events titled Africa ‘N’ Ireland ; a Tale of Positive Integration, organized by WIN, Athy and held in Athy. This event was supported by Department of Foreign Affairs/Irish Aid, Athy Town Council and a host of individuals.

 

- May-June, 2008, Swimming Training at the Athy Swimming Pool. Funded by KCP.

 

- 16th June, 2008, participated in the Pride of Place Competition for which, though we are awaiting the result, from the whole Island, WIN, Athy received a commendation letter from Athy Town Council.

 

- July, 2008, Hair Braiding Techniques at the Athy Travellers Club House. Funded by KCP.

 

- 7th-14th July, 2008, WINNING KIDS summer camp at The Hunting Ground, Dublin Road, Athy / Exhibition of Products from Summer Camp on 14th July, 2008.

 

- WIN Athy, 26th August, 2008, Creative Writing Awards for Narrative, Descriptive, Imaginative and Play/Drama at the Heritage Centre, Athy.

 

- 30th August, 2008, WIN’s Family Day Out to Phoenix Park, guided tour of the Presidents house (ÁRAS AN UACHTARÁIN), Museum /children’s park and to Smith Field for the New Yam Festival hosted by the Igbo Community Ireland. Supported by KCP and SKTC

 

- 31st August, 2008, WIN, Athy participated in the Athy Age Action 10km walk.

 

- 1st September, 2008, start up of WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre at the Athy Travellers Club House, Mt.St.Mary’s, Stanhope Street, Athy (official opening billed for Friday the 26th of September, 2008). Centre, Funded by Dormant Accounts

 

- 4th September, 2008 for 5weeks, Advanced Bead making skills acquisition training. Funded by Dormant Accounts

 

-12th September, 2008, historic photo session with Brid of South East Laois arts council and Joann for Athy Heritage week.

 

- 26th September, 2008, official opening ceremony of WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre. Centre supported by Dormant Accounts.

 

- 10th October, 2008, 10 weeks Creative Illustration of Women’s Role project, commenced. Funded by Dormant Accounts.

 

- 10th October, 2008, WIN sang at 7pm Mass for Scoil Mhicil Naofa’s 50th Anniversary, Mass.

 

- 11th October, 2008, WIN hosted an information stand at Hala Mor, Scoil Mhicil Naofa and staged performances for the celebration.

 

- 14th October, 2008, WIN, Athy hosted an information stand at the KVB NUI Maynooth Volunteer’s fair.

 

- 6th and 7th November, 2008 WIN, Athy and friends of WIN, carried out bag packing to raise funds for Self Help Africa at the Supervalu opposite An post, Athy.

 

- 12th November, 2008, WIN, Athy held a sandwich morning to further raise funds for Self Help Africa at WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre.

 

- 12th December, 2008 developed & circulated WIN, Athy 2009 e-Calendar.

 

- 18th December, 2008, submitted WIN, Athy’s 2009 e-calendar to the printer for production of hard copies for publicity. Funded by Dormant Accounts.

 

- 20th December, 2008, children’s end year funfair & Christmas party at the Roll’N’ Bowl, Portlaoise and Visit to Santa at the Heritage Centre, Athy. Supported by SKTC and Dormant Accounts.

 

- 13th January, 2009, Arts Exhibition Opening titled; WOMEN’S ROLE IN POSITIVE INTEGRATION @ the Athy Community Library. Exhibition on till 30th January, 2009. Funded by Dormant Accounts.

 

- 18TH February, 2009, Launch of Voters Awareness Campaign by NCP and Africa Centre @WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre, Mt. St. Mary’s Stanhope Street, Athy.

 

- 6th February, 2009, 6 weeks Start Your Own Business training held in WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre, commenced. Packaged & delivered by CDAAT (Formerly, KCP).    

 

- 17th March, 2009, participated in the Athy Town St. Patrick’s Day, Parade.

 

- 31st March, 2009, organized 3rd Celebrating Diversity in Athy & WIN, Athy’s 2nd Anniversary & Launched FOTO SPEAK @ the Hunting Ground, Dublin Road, Athy. Funded by Kildare County Council Festival Grants.

 

- 23rd May, 2009, members of WIN, Athy performed some dances/songs during African Day Events hosted by South East Laois Arts Council in Ballylinan.

 

 Saturday, 30th May, 2009, held a special reception for families from Grandvillers, France (Athy’s twinned town) 3.00-4.30pm in WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre.

 

- Sunday, 21st June, 2009, WIN, Athy, hosted information Stand @ the Kildare Show at the County Show Grounds, Athy.

 

- Saturday, 27th June, 2009, WIN, Athy, hosted an Information Stand @ the Aras Chill Dara, Naas, for Multicultural Family Day activities supported by members & KNIT, Kildare.

 

- Friday, 3rd July’09, Proficiency in Bead Works Training commenced to end 2nd October’09. Funded by Dormant Accounts.

 

-- 13th-24th July, 2009, WINNING KIDS summer camp at The Hunting Ground, Dublin Road, Athy. Summer Camp ended with performances by Campers &Exhibition of Products from Summer Camp on 24th July, 2009. Supported by School Completion Programme (SCP).

 

-- Saturday, 25th July, 2009, WIN, Athy, hosted an Information stand in Coneyboro Estate during Coneyboro Residents Association’s Family fun day.

 

-Saturday, 29th August, 2009, Annual WIN, Athy’s Family Day Out. Activities/places visited include: Historical Boat cruise with Liffey River Cruise, National Museum of Ireland and Phoenix Park all in Dublin.   Funded by Dormant Accounts.

                    

- Sunday, 30th August, 2009, WIN, Athy participated in the Athy Age Action 10km walk.

 

- Wednesday, 9th September, 2009, Charmaine Kenny, 2009 Rose Of Tralee, visited WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre, Mount’s,  Stanhope Street, Athy. St.Mary.

- Saturday, 19th September, 2009, WIN, Athy Participated in the homecoming activities, held in Athy for the 2009, Rose of Tralee, Charmaine Kenny and presented her with gifts from WINNING KIDS & WIN.

 

- Tuesday, 22nd – Thursday, 24th, September, 2009, WIN, Athy hosted information sessions at the National Ploughing Championships, held in Cardenton, Athy. (Special thanks to Jo Coyle, Hair Affaire, Athy for facilitating WIN’s participation & Helen Dowling, RAPID Co-ordinator, for giving us the space to host the sessions).

 

- Thursday, 22nd October, 2009, hosted Bead works Exhibition to showcase beaded products from just concluded Proficiency in Beadworks training. These products will be on display till end November, 2009 in WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre, Mount St. Mary’s, Stanhope Street, Athy.

 

- Wednesday, 4th November, 2009, hosted an Information stand in NUI, Maynooth during the annual Volunteers Fair organized by Kildare Volunteer Bureau.

 

- Saturday, 12th December, 2009, children’s end year funfair & Christmas party at the Pirates Cove Courtown and Kia-Ora Farms both in Wexford.

 

- Friday, 29th January, to 9th April, ,2010, Basic Intercultural music Training in WIN’s Information/Drop-In-Centre Funded by CDAAT (Formerly KCP)

 

- Wednesday, 17th March, 2010, participated in the Athy Town St. Patrick’s Day, Parade.

 

- Tuesday, 13th April, 2010, recording of Intercultural music for CD launch. Funded by Kildare County Council Festival Grants.

 

- Thursday, 22nd April, 2010, organized 4th Celebrating Diversity in Athy / WIN, Athy’s 3rd Anniversary @ The Jane Ville Hall Church of Ireland, Carlow Road, Athy. Highpoint was the launch of WIN’s Intercultural CD by Cllr.Mark Wall & Helen Dowling on behalf of Kildare County Council. Funded by Kildare County Council Festival Grants.

- Saturday, 15th May, 2010, 11am-2pm, organized International Dance / Music Festival with Farrell Caffrey School of Irish Dance, Athy @ the Emily Square, Athy (in front of the Heritage centre).


-Friday, 2nd -Monday, 5th July, Athy Town Twinning Exchange to Grandvillers in France.


-Monday, 12th-Friday, 23rd July, 2010, Summer Camp for WINNING KIDS @ the Hunting Ground, Dublin Road, Athy.
Supported by School Completion Programme (SCP).


-Saturday, 21st August- Friday, 3rd September, 2010, Exhibition of different Arts, Beadworks and crafts by members of WIN, Athy at the Athy Heritage Centre, for the Nationwide Heritage Week.


-Sunday, 19th September, 2010, WINNING KIDS made a special presentation to
Clare Kambamettu, 2010 Rose of Tralee during the homecoming event hosted in Athy.

 

-Sunday, 26th September, 2010, WIN, Athy hosted a BWB stand infront of the Athy Town hall during Discovery Day Activities in Athy. We had exciting times
with members of the general public learning beadworks, getting single braids, accessing information on a wide range of things, enjoying food from across the globe and having fun while positively integrating.

-Sunday, 14th-Thursday, 25th November, 2010, International Workshop on Capacity Building for Women Leaders, Haifa, Israel. Funded by the State of Israel and supported by WIN, Athy.


-Saturday, 18th December, 2010, WINNNING KIDS’s end year / Christmas funfair at the Athy Heritage Centre. Funded by Dormant Accounts.


-Friday, 4th-Friday 25th February, 2011, Millinery Skills Training.
Funded by Dormant Accounts

-Thursday, 24th-Sunday, 27th February, 2011, European Women's Network exchange in Prague, Czech Republic.
Funded by Grundtvig.


- Tuesday, March 8th, 2011, 100th International Women's Day. His & Hers Film at  the Athy College, Theater. Supported by Athy College & Athy Film Club.


- 17th March, 2011, participated in the Athy Town St.Patrick’s Day, Parade.


-Thursday, 14th April, 2011, organized 5th Celebrating Diversity in Athy / 4th  Anniversary of the public launch of WIN, @ The Church of Ireland Hall, Carlow Road, Athy. Special Guest of Honour,
The  2010 Rose of Tralee, Clare Kambamettu. Highpoint was the launch of the 2nd edition of WIN’s International Cookery Book (WICB) by Lucina Russell, Arts Officer, Kildare County Council. Funded by Kildare County Council Festival Grants.

-Saturday,23rd April, 2011, organized Easter Egg Hunt at the People's park, Athy.


-Thursday, 2nd-Sunday 5th June, 2011, European Women's Network Exchange in Frankfurt, Germany. Funded by Grundtvig.


-Wednesday, 15th June, 2011, WIN, Athy's Open Day, held at the Information/Drop-In-Centre, At. St. Mary's Stanhope Street, Athy.
 

-11th-22nd July, 2011, WINNING KIDS summer camp at The Hunting Ground, Dublin Road, Athy / Exhibition of Products from Summer Camp on 22nd July, 2011. Supported by SCP, Athy.


-Saturday, 20th August, 2011, WIN’s Family Day Out. Visited Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park and Straffan Butterfly Farm.


-Wednesday. 24th August, 2011, WIN, Athy hosted an information stand at the European House, Dawson Street, Dublin during European Year of Volunteering (EYV 2011), Roadshow.

-Friday, 14th October, 2011, WIN, Athy hosted members of EU Women's Network from Prague, Frankfurt and Dublin to a social networking event at the Athy College, Monasterevan Road, Athy. Supported by Members of WIN, Athy and Athy College


-Monday, 31st October, 2011, WINNING KIDS 2011, Halloween event, River view and Athy Arts Centre. Organized by WIN, Athy and Supported by SCP, Athy 

-Saturday, 17th Dec, 2011, WINNING KIDS end year event organized by WIN, Athy, backstage activities, Naas, Dublin and Athy. Supported by SCP, Athy


-Sunday, 18th Dec, 2011, The Men's Night Out held in Dooley's Pub, Athy. Organised by WIN, Athy.


-Thursday, 8th March, 2012, Special Event to Mark 2012 International Women's Day, hosted by WIN, Athy at the Athy Library. Funded by Members, WIN, Athy.


-Saturday, 17th March, 2012, participated in the Athy Town St. Patrick's Day Parade.


-Saturday, 7th April, 2012, WINNING KIDS Easter Egg Hunt held at The People's Park, Athy.       Funded by members of WIN, Athy


-Thursday, 26th April, 2012, organized 6th Celebrating Diversity in Athy / 5th Anniversary of the public launch of WIN, @ The Athy Library, Emily Square, Athy. Special Guest of Honour, The Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Richard Daly. Highpoint was the launch of the WINNING KIDS Little book, 'THE LOVELIES' By Jean Bridgeman, (PRAXIS), NUIM, Special Guest Speaker on behalf of Kildare County Council Festival Grants who proudly supports this annual event.


-Three WIN, Athy members and their families participated in this year's Athy Twinning Exchange to France. Date was Friday 1st June -Monday,  4th, June, 2012. 


-2nd-6th July, 2012, First Teenagers summer 3C (Cookery, Computers & Crafts) workshop Purrellstown, Kildare Road, Athy.  Organized by, WIN, Athy.


-9th-20th July, 2012, WINNING KIDS summer camp both in Dunmore East and at The Hunting Ground, Dublin Road, Athy / Exhibition of Products from Summer Camp on 20th July, 2012. Organized by WIN, Athy.
 

-Sat, 11th, August, 2012, Annual Family Day Out. Visited Tayto Park, Ashbourne, Co. Meath. Organized by WIN, Athy. 

-Wed, 31st October, 2012, WINNING KIDS Halloween Dress up party. Hosted b WINNING KIDS Co-Ordinator, Dun-Brinn, Athy. Organized by WIN, Athy.

-Sat, 8th December, 2012, WINNING KIDS Christmas / End Year, event. Cuan Mhuire, Athy. Organized by WIN, Athy.

-Sat, 15th December, 2012, Men's Wing outdoor event. Held 11am-1pm at the shooting range, Golf course, Athy. Organized by WIN, Athy.

-Sat, 15th December, 2012, American Auction Fundraising Christmas event at the Clancy's Pub, Athy. Organized by WIN, Athy.    

-Monday 6th, 2013, a night out in Clancy's with great performances by trad Athy group. 

-Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th,  May, 2013, organized special The Gathering Ireland; 7th Celebrating Diversity in Athy / 6th Anniversary of the public launch of WIN, @ The Heritage Centre, Emily Square, Athy. Chief Host, The Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Mark Wall. Highpoint was the launch of the SOCIAL INCLUSION PROPS. By Joan Talbot, (KCC) on behalf of Kildare County Council Festival Grants who proudly supports this annual event.

-8th-19th July, 2013, WINNING KIDS summer camp both in Dunmore East and at The Athy Library, Emily Square, Athy. Organized by WIN, Athy. 

-10th August, 2013, Annual Family Day out to Trabolgan, Cork, County Cork. Organized by WIN, Athy. 

-31st October, 2013, Halloween Party for WINNING KIDS 6-7pm @ The WINNING KIDS Co-ordinator's house, Athy. Organized by WIN, Athy. 
                                
7th December, 2013, WIN, Athy's Christmas event, Supported by Anne and Organized by WIN, Athy. 

-8th March, 2014, Dinner with the girls to mark International Women's Day @ Ngai Restuarant, Athy. Organized by WIN, Athy.

-Thursday, 29th May, 2014, organized 8th Celebrating Diversity in Athy / 7th Anniversary of the public launch of WIN, @ The Athy Library, Emily Square, Athy. Special Guest of Honour, Monica Anne Brennan, from Canada who was supported by Brid Brophy of Athy Arts Sub-Committee. Special thanks to the Festival Grant of Kildare County Council who proudly supports this annual event.


-24th October, 2014, Halloween Party for WINNING KIDS 6-7pm @ The WINNING KIDS Co-ordinator's house, Athy. Organized by WIN, Athy and supported by SCP, Athy. 
 
- Monday, 17th Novemeber, 2014, one and half hour Preparatory Project Workshop for 9 Grains of Rice CrocKnit Project held in, Athy. Organized by WIN and supported by CKLP.                                            
 - Friday, 20th February, 2015, Ladies night event in Athy to mark International Women's Day celebrations annually held every 
8th of March, worldwide. Organized by WIN and funded by members.

                                 
  -18th March, 2015, held Film, Fun & Finger Foods part of the week long countywide Intercultural week suported by CKLP  

                                                                                  
-Thursday, 14th May, 2015, 9th Celebrating Diversity in Athy / 8th Anniversary of WIN's Public Launch.

A lot has happened since 2015 to date; the most recent being the 15th Celebrating Diversity in Athy ad 14th Anniversary of WIN's Public Lauch, Thursday, 8th July, 2021.
